Grubhub and Gopuff have partnered to bring faster delivery of groceries to restaurant diners.

Growing Grubhub’s offerings and expanding Gopuff’s platform are a few of the expectations as a result of the partnership, the Chicago-based food delivery platform Grubhub Inc. said Tuesday.

The partnership is currently operating in select locations in New York City, Los Angeles, Chicago, Boston, Philadelphia and Austin. In the coming weeks, it will expand to  hundreds of Gopuff locations across the country, Grubhub said.

The pairing puts Gopuff's selection of convenience items on the Grubhub Marketplace, speeding delivery of grocery items, alcohol, health and wellness products, household items, and pet and baby supplies, Grubhub said. Orders placed on Grubhub's platform will be fulfilled and delivered by Gopuff's logistics network.

“Diners now have more options when it comes to ordering fresh food, grocery items, snacks, and alcohol—all from the convenience of the Grubhub app,” said Ariella Kurshan, SVP of growth at Grubhub, in a statement.

The companies hope the pairing brings more convenience to shoppers, while also boosting sales for participating brands. According to Grubhub, diners who order convenience items on its platform place more orders from restaurants in the following month than those who do not order convenience items.

“By combining our broad assortment, logistics network and infrastructure with the virtual storefronts of Grubhub, we can create more seamless one-stop shopping experiences,” said Daniel Folkman, SVP of business at Gopuff, in a statement.

In July e-commerce giant Amazon partnered with Grubhub to offer members of Prime, which is Amazon's subscription program, a free one-year trial of Grubhub that waives delivery fees on orders over $12 from many restaurants.

Grubhub is owned by Amersterdam-based Just Eat Takeaway.com, an online food delivery marketplace. In an August release, Just Eat Takeaway.com said together with its advisors, it "continues to actively explore the partial or full sale of Grubhub." Just Eat Takeaway.com bought Grubhub in 2021.
