Kroger, Michigan Workers Still at Odds

MADISON HEIGHTS, Mich. — Union workers at Kroger stores in Michigan were still working on Thursday despite their contract expiring. The workers, represented by United Food and Commercial Workers Local 876 here, in a statement said they were fighting “concessionary demands from Kroger,” including defunding a trust account that pays for health benefits.

This issue, the union said, had stalled contract talks, which were continuing Thursday. The sides are negotiating a contract covering 12,000 workers at 118 Kroger stores in Michigan.
