Kroger’s Mid-Atlantic Division and UFCW Local 400 union make deal on wage increments

The deal includes a starting wage increase to $13 per hour for new employees

Kroger’s Mid-Atlantic division associates and the UFCW Local 400 union have reached a new agreement, avoiding a potential strike. 

The deal includes a starting wage increase to $13 per hour for new employees, with raises of up to $2.50 per hour for department leaders and top rate associates.

Other benefits negotiated by the union include:

  • More money invested in the contract, including wage scales

  • Improved hours-based pay scales with protection from pay reductions

  • No health and welfare cost increases for the life of the contract

  • Additional opportunities for paid sick time

  • Guarantee no union members’ hours will be reduced by vendors and temps

The new deal will affect about 3,000 workers at 38 stores in West Virginia, Kentucky, and Ohio. Union employees had been working without a contract for several weeks, as most members had rejected Kroger’s first contract offer last month. A strike had been imminent. 

The union said it plans to hold a vote on the agreement for the bargaining unit members next week.
