WEGMANS' VEGGIE PATCH GROWS

ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Wegmans Food Markets plans to expand its “Veggie Patch” healthy cooking program to select stores in New Jersey, Maryland and Virginia. The classes are currently offered at six Wegmans stores in Rochester and Canandaigua. The goal of the Veggie Patch class is to make nutrition kid-friendly. Children make such dishes as spaghetti squash with sauce and cheese, pureed winter squash and roasted winter squash. They also make fruit parfaits with five different-colored fruits, layered with vanilla yogurt and granola. Participating Cub and Brownie Scouts earn a “veggie” badge for their sashes.

HARRIS TEETER CONDUCTS SINGING CONTEST

MATTHEWS, N.C. — Harris Teeter has announced its second annual “My Harris Teeter” jingle contest. The winner will receive $10,000 and get to record the jingle in a professional studio. Contestants can send a VHS tape or DVD of themselves alone or in a band singing the “My Harris Teeter Jingle” by Feb. 13. Lyrics and music files can be downloaded on the Harris Teeter website.

KROGER SPONSORS HOME MAKEOVER

CINCINNATI — Kroger Co. will award a customer a $100,000 home makeover and a 2007 Hyundai Entourage. Customers were automatically entered each time they purchased a participating brand, which included Campbell's, M&M's and Clorox, as well as Kroger's Private Selection private label. The sweepstakes began last month and ended yesterday. A winner will be announced next month.
