LAKELAND, Fla. — Publix Super Markets here will sponsor a company-wide produce department sales promotion from September 29 through October 26 to benefit the Let's Move Salad Bars to Schools initiative, a public health campaign to increase the placement and use of salad bars in schools throughout the country.
“Foods that are colorful and fresh are tempting to the eyes and the taste buds,” Maria Brous, Publix director of media and community relations, said in a release.
“When families shop at Publix, we want the produce department to be appealing to children and a destination. Our goal is to help develop a love for these foods at school that can then be shared with families at home.”
Developed in conjunction with Washington-based United Fresh Produce Association and Orlando, Fla.-based Produce For Kids, the promotion will feature point-of-sale materials highlighting 13 participating produce suppliers.
During the promotion period, a portion of the sales of these sponsoring brands will be donated to the effort. And, at the conclusion of the promotion, PFK, Publix and United Fresh will jointly select schools in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, South Carolina and Tennessee to receive salad bars, which will be delivered by February 2012.
