Select Atlanta Kroger Stores Slated for Fifth Third Branches

CINCINNATI — Kroger Co. and Fifth Third Bancorp, both based here, have agreed to open 30 full-service banking locations in select Kroger stores around metro Atlanta by the end of 2010. Terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

"Kroger works with Fifth Third Bank in a number of markets throughout the Midwest, including our headquarters city of Cincinnati," said Glynn Jenkins, an Atlanta division company spokesperson in a press statement.

The expansion into Atlanta Kroger stores gives Fifth Third “a cost-effective way to expand our presence in Atlanta quickly,” a bank spokesman told SN.

Companywide, Fifth Third operates 95 in-store, or Bank Mart, locations. There are currently 13 locations in Atlanta, three of which are Bank Marts. Two were recently opened in Kroger stores in Alpharetta, Ga., and four additional locations in Atlanta are slated to open in May.

Kroger could not be reached for further comment.
