MINNEAPOLIS - Supervalu here announced that it has hired Rockville, Md.-based iControl Systems USA to implement scan-based trading (SBT) this year for Supervalu’s direct-store-delivery business.

Supervalu said SBT is a key strategic initiative that creates efficiencies in the receiving process, communicates daily sales data to vendors and allows the company to pay for product once it sells at the register.

“By deploying iControl’s DataTrue system, Supervalu will be in a position to rapidly and significantly enhance our collaboration with DSD vendors, as we seek to further align our goals and interests: Serving the needs of our customers with the right products, in the right quantities, at the right place and time, growing profitable sales and reducing waste,” said Tom Hagen, Supervalu’s director of strategic sourcing, in a statement.
