ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Longtime Wegmans Food Markets columnist Mary Ellen Burris, who began writing a weekly column for the chain’s weekly flier 39 years ago, is transitioning to a weekly blog.
The blog replaces her weekly online column, which she has written since Wegmans’ newspaper flier/ad switched from weekly to monthly distribution, Burris explained in her first blog entry at wegmans.com/maryellenburris.
The blog “will allow me to use pictures or even video to illustrate the topic, and eliminate the need to pare the column length down to 300 words (or thereabouts),” she wrote. “More importantly, it will allow you to easily share your thoughts about what I’ve written … to begin a conversation. In other words, you can ‘talk’ back.” Her column will continue to appear in the monthly print flier.
The blog and column represent “my way to share each week what I was discovering goes on behind the scenes and shelves of our stores,” she said. In total, Burris has written about 2,100 columns for Wegmans.
