ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Wegmans Food Markets here said this week that it would build a store in Newton, Mass. at about half the size of its typical outlets.

“Though smaller in size, this store will have almost everything customers have come to expect from Wegmans, including a Market Café,” Bill Congdon, vice president and New England division manager for Wegmans, said in a statement.

The urban-style store will be about 70,000 square feet, Wegmans said. Its first Massachusetts store, which opened earlier this year in Northborough, measures 138,000 square feet. Design plans for the new concept store are not yet finalized, nor has a construction schedule or opening date been determined, Congdon added.
