PORTLAND Ore. — Funeral services were pending Tuesday for Scott Preece, vice chairman of WinCo Foods, who died here Sunday after a six-month battle with stomach cancer.

Preece was chief operating officer at the Boise, Idaho-based company for most of his 20-plus years there, and had added the title of president by the time he retired three years ago, at which point he was named vice chairman.

WinCo is a “no-frills” operator with 74 stores in Idaho, Washington, Oregon, Nevada, California and Utah, with annual sales estimated at $4.6 billion. It originally operated under the name Waremart and has been an employee-owned company since 1985.
