APOPKA, Fla. — Winn-Dixie Stores staged a grand re-opening here Wednesday of the latest store to undergo one of its "transformational" remodels, and its first in the Central Florida market.

The store, which underwent $5 million in renovations, features a greatly expanded perishables and prepared-foods offering, including made-to-order pizza, a carving station and a barbecue bar.

The company said it plans to open 17 more of the remodeled stores in the next year, including additional Central Florida locations in Longwood, Fern Park, Palm Bay and New Smyrna Beach. The company previously tested the "transformational" model at stores in Covington, La.; Margate, Fla.; and Mobile, Ala.
