JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Winn-Dixie Stores here said Wednesday it is offering a discounted rate and free groceries to shoppers who use their Customer Reward Card when they get a flu shot at the retailer this month.

This marks the second year for the chain's "What-A-Deal" promotion for flu season. Customers can get $5 off the price of the shot ($24.99 with the discount), plus five free grocery items: a 3-lb. bag of Eastern Jonomac apples, a 64-oz. container of Minute Maid orange juice, an 8-oz. bottle of Top Care hand sanitizer, an 35-count package of Winn-Dixie disinfecting wipes and a 65- or 85-count box of Winn-Dixie facial tissues. The items are valued at $12.71, Winn-Dixie said.

"In addition to receiving the discounted flu shot, our guest get five free grocery items specifically bundled to help protect them and their families during flu season," said John Fegan, Winn-Dixie's vice president of pharmacy. "The fresh fruit and orange juice provide a healthy start to the day and the hand sanitizer, wipes and tissues will help control the possible spread of germs."
