JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Shareholders of Winn-Dixie Stores are scheduled to vote Friday on whether the company should be acquired by Bi-Lo Holdings.
The merger of the two retailers is expected to close shortly after an affirmative vote from a majority of the shareholders.
In a message to Winn-Dixie employees filed with federal authorites, the retailer said it was still unclear whether the combined company would locate its headquarters here or in Bi-Lo’s Greenville, S.C., headquarters, but said it anticipated having at least some presence at both locales
As previously reported in SN, the new company will be led by Randall Onstead, Bi-Lo’s current chairman. The company will have 690 stores in eight Southeastern states.
