For the second year in a row, Krause’s Market’s Garrison, N.D., location won Supervalu’s national “Beef Stampede” contest.

The annual, month-long merchandising event challenges retailers supplied by Supervalu to highlight beef as a dinner plate staple.

For its winning entry, Krause’s Market merchandised beef across the store with a Western-themed motif. Events included beef-cutting seminars, a ribeye event, a chili feed contest, a best-dressed employee and customer contest, as well as fundraising efforts to benefit a local festival and the high school athletic department.

“We were so impressed with the outstanding efforts this year from all of our participating retailers to engage their customers and communities in the program, which resulted in driving increased demand for beef,” Greg Opsal, director of meat and seafood merchandising for Supervalu’s West Region, said in a press release. “There’s no doubt that Krause’s creativity, hard work and enthusiasm for the Beef Stampede set them apart from hundreds of other retailers nationwide. We congratulate them on their second consecutive win.”

“The Beef Stampede gives us a great opportunity to show off the quality and variety of products that our meat department has to offer,” said Roy McKenzie, Krause’s meat department manager. “We had a lot of fun working with our customers and the community to bring the program to life. In the end, the results were well worth the hard work we put into it.”

Criteria for the contest included total sales, product display, creativity and integration across the store. Supervalu assisted participating stores with marketing.
