Schnucks touts increased meat donations

Over the past five years, Schnuck Markets’ "Meat Rescue" program of meat protein donations to St. Louis charity Operation Food Search has grown from a pilot at two stores to almost every store, according to the retailer.

In the past six months, Schnucks donated 500,000 pounds of meat to the organization.

“We partner with key hunger relief organizations across our five-state area through our year-round, and often daily, donations of food,” Joanie Taylor, Schnucks director of consumer affairs and community relations said in a press release. “The Meat Rescue program is one of the first in the nation, and because of its success, it is now being replicated by hunger relief agencies and grocers across the county.”

Schnucks also donates bakery, produce, dairy and other products to OFS, which together total 11 million pounds in donations each year.
