Aldi opens store in Chicago suburbs
The new store in LaGrange Park near the grocer’s cashierless checkout test store
German discount grocer Aldi opened its newest store on Thursday in the Chicago suburb of LaGrange Park, Ill., about half an hour from its U.S. headquarters in Batavia.
The new location is also not far from Aurora, Ill., where the grocer has been test piloting checkout-free technology powered by Berkeley, Calif.-based Grabango.
The new location is Aldi’s first in LaGrange Park, the grocer said in a press release.
Aldi said in March that it plans to open 800 new stores by 2028.
Aldi operated 2,381 U.S. locations, as of May 16, 2024, according to ScrapeHero.com.
The company made headlines in early May with the announcement that it was lowering prices on more than 250 items this summer to help fight “stubbornly high” food prices.
