Aldi’s growth spurt continues as the no-frills German discount grocery chain is having a very busy week with new store openings and remodels, proving its growth is far from slowing.
On Thursday, the discount grocer opened its newest store at 3200 Louisiana Ave., in Lafayette, Louisiana, which is part of its aggressive nationwide plan to open 150 new stores this year—approximately 20 of which will be in Alabama, Mississippi, the Florida Panhandle and Louisiana.
“Our stores are designed to make grocery shopping smarter, faster and easier, and we’ve been voted the price leader for five years running,” said Heather Moore, division VP for Aldi, in a statement. “We offer easy access to affordable fresh food and household essentials, as well as a great selection of regional items. Our new Gulf Coast locations will carry local favorites such as Tony Chachere’s Creole Seasoning, Crystal’s Hot Sauce, Blue Plate Mayonnaise, Blue Bell Ice Cream and Luzianne Sweet Tea.”
On Wednesday, the grocer welcomed shoppers back to its renovated McKees Rocks, Pennsylvania, store, which is located at 114 Chartiers Avenue.
“We have invested in remodeling our stores to ensure they are designed to make grocery shopping smarter, faster and easier,” said J.R. Perry, Saxonburg regional VP for Aldi, in a statement. “With the updated McKees Rocks store, shoppers will notice a new look with more fresh and convenient items at the reliably low prices Aldi fans rave about.”
Updates to the store include an improved layout, increased refrigeration, open ceilings, natural lighting, and a reliance on environmentally friendly materials, the grocer said.
As part of the grocer’s Gulf Coast expansion, Aldi opened its first store in LaPlace, Louisiana, last month.
With 2,200 stores across 38 states, Aldi is on track to become the third-largest grocery retailer by store count by the end of 2022, the Batavia, Illinois-based chain said.
