Family-owned Dierbergs Markets will open its 27th grocery store later this month on the former site of the Crestwood Plaza shopping mall in Crestwood, Missouri, the grocer announced Monday.

The 72,000-square-foot store follows a similar footprint to the retailer’s Lake Saint Louis store that opened in November 2021, the company said.

“The Dierbergs’ commitment to providing excellent customer service and an extensive selection of quality products will feel familiar in our newest store,” CEO and President Greg Dierberg said in a statement. “My family is proud of the all-in team effort that goes into a project like this, and we’re ready to share Crestwood Crossing with the community.”

The new store features a seating area decorated with historic photos of the former Crestwood Plaza, which was demolished in 2017, as well as a Dierbergs Kitchen prepared-foods department, butcher shop, bakery, health and beauty center, floral department, gift shop, pizza cove and Mercy Pharmacy. The store also includes Bob’s Barn, a full-size wooden barn inside the market that houses beer, wine and spirits.

The initial phase of the Crestwood Plaza development will include 35,000 square feet of adjoining retail and restaurant real estate, Dierbergs said. An urgent care center has signed a lease. The property also includes outdoor gathering spaces.

“Dierbergs is currently in discussions with several local restaurants that have expressed interest in joining the community," the grocer said in a statement.

The new store will employ more than 100 workers, the company said.

A grand opening for the Crestwood store will take place at 8:15 a.m. on March 28 and the store’s doors will open at 9 a.m.

“The gathering will acknowledge the hard work of our associates and many partners who brought this property to life,” the company said.

St. Louis-based Dierbergs Markets began as a country store in 1854 in West St. Louis County. Until 1967, it had just one location. Dierbergs, which has been run by four generations, now employs more than 3,500 workers in its stores in the St. Louis metro area. It has one location at Missouri’s Lake of the Ozarks.
