Opening new grocery stores is an Aldi thing this week.

The no-frills German discount grocery chain is having a very busy week, with seven new store openings slated as it seeks to become one of the country's largest grocers.

The new locations are part of the company’s nationwide growth plan, which includes the opening of approximately 150 new stores this year—close to 20 of which will be in Alabama, Mississippi, the Florida Panhandle and Louisiana, Aldi said.

With a business model that is “intentionally different,” Aldi on Tuesday opened its newest Greenville, Michigan, location at 2009 W. Washington St.

On Thursday, Aldi held ribbon cutting ceremonies for the following new stores:

780 NJ-70 West, Brick Township, which will replace the 131 Van Zile Rd. Brick Township, New Jersey, store

1181 East Caro Rd., Caro, Michigan

6365 Pats Ranch Rd., Mira Loma, California

3430 Emmorton Rd., Abingdon, Maryland

500 Highway 72 West, Rolla, Missouri

4201 W 61st Circle N Suite 140, Sioux Falls, South Dakota

Last month Aldi opened its first Tustin, California, location, transforming the site of a former bowling alley into a supermarket. The new store, located at 1091 Irvine Blvd. is part of the company’s nationwide growth plan, and edges the discount grocer to almost 100 stores in California, according to the grocer’s website.

Looking ahead to 2023, Aldi will open its first store in Staten Island, the southernmost of New York City's five boroughs, in 2023.

“We are excited to confirm we are planning to open our first Aldi store on Staten Island but do not have further details at this time. We will reach back out once we have more specific details,”Chris Daniels, South Windsor Division VP at Aldi, confirmed in an email statement to WGB.
