Food Bazaar has opened their newest store in Carlstadt, N.J., taking over a space previously occupied by Stop & Shop

This Paterson Ave. location marks the eighth Food Bazaar in New Jersey, along with 30 others in Connecticut and New York. While the store opened Oct. 4 and is still in its final stages of setting up, aisles were full of a wide variety of local and international goods, providing a taste of home for the diverse area.

Bogopa, Food Bazaar’s parent company, is Korean for “yearning for you,” which the company says, “embodies the essence of our commitment to serving the very unique needs of our customers, many of whom are minorities or immigrants who have not forgotten their roots.” The chain aims to “enter so-called ‘underserved’ communities that other major supermarket chains flee from.”

The location was one of the 32 Stop & Shop closures due to underperformance announced in July, in order to create a “healthy store base for the long term.” The store closures are expected on or before Nov. 2, and affect locations across Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, and Rhode Island.
