Bashas’ has been remodeling stores — like the one in Lake Havasu City, Ariz. — that eliminate the brightness of most retail outlets — “a look as bright as the inside of a refrigerator when the door is open,” a chain spokesman told SN — in favor of a décor package that uses a muted color palette featuring more earth tones rather than white; warmer lighting that mixes track lights with fluorescent; polished concrete floors in the center store area and wood floors around the perimeter; some wood highlights on the gondolas; and metallic-like aisle markers. The Chandler, Ariz.-based chain said it has completed eight remodels this year and plans 10 more next year.
