WEST SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Raley's here said it laid off an undisclosed number of employees Monday in its corporate operations, primarily in the areas of facilities and construction.

Nicole Townsend, a chain spokeswoman, declined to say how many of the company's approximately 1,300 corporate employees had been let go.

“It was very tough for us at Raley's [to make the cuts],” she told SN, “and it impacted not only those who were directly affected but also those who were not.”

Some of the layoffs involved positions that were eliminated because of more efficient ways of doing those jobs “so we can pass on increased value to our customers,” Townsend said.
