Quincy, Massachusetts-based Stop & Shop, Ahold Delhaize USA’s largest brand, completed the remodels of two stores in Queens, New York, that will meet the needs of the diverse community with more global offerings, the company said last week.

The remodeled stores are in the residential community of Maspeth in Queens. The two updated stores are part of the supermarket chain’s $140 million capital investment slated for its New York City fleet.

Both supermarkets will now feature products from around the world. For the Maspeth store, more than 1,500 additional multicultural products have been added, including Asian items, Latin dairy and grocery items, and expanded Halal options, Stop & Shop said in a statement. At the Glendale store, a multicultural aisle with nearly 1,000 international products including Latin dairy offerings, as well as Puerto Rican and Caribbean products, will now be available to shoppers.

“Queens is the most ethnically diverse borough in New York City and we’re proud to bring products from around the world to the ‘world’s borough,'" said Al Steiger, Stop & Shop district director, in a statement.

The remodels will also showcase value, Stop & Shop said, with deal bins and the addition of the Flashfood program, which offers fresh foods nearing their best-by dates at up to 50% off.

Stop & Shop, which has more than 400 stores throughout Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island, New York and New Jersey, operates 25 stores in the Bronx, Brooklyn, Queens and Staten Island, offering home delivery in all five boroughs.
