Target Corp. has unveiled its first “next generation” store in Richmond, Texas, which features one entrance that leads directly to the grocery department and another that leads to items such as apparel and housewares.

On the “grocery” side Target also offers an area where customers can pick up online orders either inside the store or have them brought out to the car. The grocery section, traditionally found at the back of Target stores, is at the front of the new, 124,00-square-foot store and includes prepared meals and wine, according to a report on MySanAntonio.com. The grocery side of the store also includes last-minute gift ideas and cleaning supplies, the website reported.

The design overall is more modern, with a curved layout and several new departments, including kitchenware, according to a report in the Houston Business Journal. The store also includes a CVS pharmacy and a staffed health and beauty department, according to reports.

The “department-store” entrance also leads to a Starbucks with outdoor seating.

Target had previously said it plans to introduce elements of the new design to more than 1,000 of its 1,800 locations as it embarks on on aggressive remodeling plan in the coming years.

The Minneapolis-based company said last month it plans to fully renovate more than 325 stores in 2018, 350 in 2019 and 325 in 2020, in addition to the 110 stores it remodeled this year.

At the same time, it is also ramping up the rollout of its small-format stores, and plans to have 130 of those stores, which also feature a full grocery offering, by the end of 2019.
