Whole Foods opens new store in Springfield, Virginia

The 49,499-square-foot store, located at 6426 Springfield Plaza, is a relocation of a Whole Foods formerly located at 8402 Old Keene Mill Road in Springfield.

Whole Foods opens new store in Springfield, Virginia

Whole Foods Market opened its newest location in Springfield, Virginia, Wednesday, featuring an assortment of more than 600 locally sourced products, the grocer announced.

The 49,499-square-foot store, located at 6426 Springfield Plaza, is a relocation of a Whole Foods formerly located at 8402 Old Keene Mill Road in Springfield. 

“We are thrilled to continue serving the wonderful community of Springfield with this new, larger location,” said Jose Salazar, Whole Foods Market store team leader, in a statement. “With more features, including full-service meat and seafood counters and an expanded prepared foods section, we are excited to introduce Whole Foods Market’s knowledgeable team members, high-quality standards for food and hand-picked selection of local products to more customers in this community.” 

Whole Foods also announced it will donate a refrigerated van to Northern Virginia Food Rescue, via the grocer’s Nourishing Our Neighborhoods program. 

The grocer, which is owned by retail giant Amazon, has more than 500 stores in the United States, United Kingdom and Canada. 

The new store will feature: 

  • Produce from local farms, including Hess Brother’s Fruit Company, Mountain View Orchards and Aerofarms. 

  • A cheese department with products from Firehook Bakery, Virginia Chutney Company and Picnic Gourmet Spreads. 

  • Curated groceries from local companies, including Asmar’s Mediterranean Food, Sloppy Mama’s and Route 11. 

  • A seafood counter with products from Ivy City Smokehouse, Clayton Seafood Company, Rappahannock Oyster Co. And George’s Seafoods. 

  • A full-service meat counter with grass-fed beef from Grayson Natural Farms. 

  • Craft beers from Port City Brewing Company, Potter’s Craft Cider, Aslin Beer Co. And Three Notch’d Brewing Company. 

  • An expanded prepared foods section with a full-service deli, self-serve food bars, a pizza station, made-to-order sandwiches and sushi from Genji. 

  • A bakery that includes bread and other items made in-house, as well as locally made products from Al Bohsali, Whisked and Sweet and Natural. 

  • A body care section with items from Whole Foods’ exclusive partner Pacha Soap Company, as well as products from Naked Goat Soap Company, The Neighborhoods and Handmade Habit.
