Aldi opens new stores in Michigan, Illinois

The German grocery chain operates nearly 2,400 U.S. locations

Aldi continued its rapid expansion of new locations this week with the opening of two new stores — one in Plainfield, Ill., and another in Alpena, Mich.

Both stores opened on June 6 and included promotions for early shoppers, such as gift bags, Aldi gift cards, and the chance to enter a sweepstakes.

The Plainfield store, located at 13843 S. Route 59, was relocated from a recently closed Aldi at 13550 N. Division Street, the company said. The relocation aims to offer a better layout for the store and “ample refrigeration,” the company said.

“We are always looking out for the needs of our shoppers and decided to move our Plainfield store to allow more room …” Heather McCarthy, Dwight regional vice president for Aldi, said in a press release.

The new Aldi in Alpena, located at 1051 Crittenden Court, is the grocer’s first location in the city.

Aldi announced in March that it plans to spend around $9 billion to open 800 new U.S. locations by the end of 2028.

The German-owned grocery chain operated 2,381 U.S. locations as of May 16, according to ScrapeHero.com.
