AUSTIN, Texas – Whole Foods Market here will open its second in-store spa this summer in San Francisco, according to a report in the Dallas Morning News yesterday. The retailer’s first in-store spa opened in December 2006, in Dallas. The trend, combining the retail experience with the spa experience, is catching on, the report said. Plano-based J.C. Penney Co. has 20 spas throughout the United States. Coldwater Creek, Sandpoint, Idaho, a women's apparel retailer, has six, with more planned. The number of spas in the U.S. increased 16% in the last two years, to more than 13,750 locations in 2006, according to the International Spa Association. Included are spas in department stores and freestanding locations, the report said.
