Ahold Delhaize USA’s Peapod Digital Labs arm has enlisted a cloud-based platform from Trace One to provide an easy-access destination for its private-brand product and packaging specifications.

Through a pilot launched early this month, the online platform will be used to manage product formulation, labeling statements and claims, quality and testing parameters, and packaging substrate data to promote regulatory compliance, satisfy company standards and meet consumer expectations, Chicago-based Peapod said.

Vendors also stand to benefit from the solution, which will create a single source of validated and approved private-label portfolio data, Peapod noted. With real-time, online access, vendors will be able to report packaging and product information more easily, sharpening accuracy across all Ahold Delhaize USA companies, the company said. The solution also ensures accurate labeling, helps identify opportunities for alignment and raises efficiency in reporting on progress toward sustainability goals.

Plans call for Peapod Digital Labs to work with Trace One, a Boston-based collaborative retail business platform for consumer packaged goods, to finish the configuration of the new solution in the coming months. Beginning in June 2022, all private-brand product suppliers will be required to use the new system, Peapod reported.

“The private-brands team has worked hard to remove unwanted ingredients from its portfolio of private label products to promote transparency and sustainable practices, and to reduce our plastic and packaging waste,” Danielle Harper, director of product excellence for private brands at Peapod Digital Labs, said in a statement. “Partnering with Trace One is an important next step in ensuring that we meet consumers’ expectations about visibility to the ingredients in a product, where it was made and if sustainable and/or ethical practices were used in production.”

Ahold Delhaize USA’s roster of food and nonfood own brands includes such labels as Nature’s Promise, Taste of Inspirations, CareOne, Smart Living, Always My Baby, Etos, Companion, Limited Time Originals, Guaranteed Value and Cha-Ching, as well as the retail banners’ store brands.

Peapod Digital Labs provides e-commerce and digital solutions and innovation for Ahold Delhaize USA, whose supermarket chains include Stop & Shop, Giant Food, Giant/Martin’s, Food Lion and Hannaford, as well as online grocer FreshDirect and support subsidiary Retail Business Services.
