SUNBURY, Pa. — Weis Markets here on Friday said it had completed remodels of two of its stores in Binghamton, N.Y., and planned to hold grand reopening events at both stores on Sunday.

Weis spent $3 million between the stores, each of which now has larger produce, bakery and meat departments, improved lighting and layouts and upgraded decor. With these two projects, Weis Markets has now invested $6.7 million in seven of its Southern Tier stores over the past two years.

Weis entered the Binghamton market as a result of the acquisition of Giant Market stores in 2009.

As part of the opening celebrations the stores will present $7,500 in donations to local groups, including $5,000 to United Health System Foundation for breast cancer prevention programs, $1,500 to Stop DWI Broome County, $1,000 to Julyfest and $1,000 to the Magic Paintbrush, a creative workshop program for special needs citizens and their families.
