Haggen has added new tags in the seafood department to highlight sustainable offerings as part of its partnership with the Monterey Bay Aquarium’s Seafood Watch.

Green tags denote “Best Choice” seafood, which is caught or harvested with little to no impact on the environment, future populations or other species. Yellow tags are for “Good Alternative” seafood that comes from fisheries with improvement plans in place.

The retailer claims it will only sell sustainable fresh seafood starting this month.

“Our decision to partner with the Monterey Bay Aquarium aligns perfectly with our long-standing commitment to sustainability,” Haggen seafood sales manager Amber Thunder Eagle said in a press release. “Through our personal relationships with local fishers, we’ve been able to verify many of our sources firsthand. Providing even broader source transparency is something that we’re really excited about.”
