Curbside drive-thru grocer JackBe opens first location
The new brand, with its focus on pick-up, opens its first location in Oklahoma City
JackBe, a curbside drive-thru grocer, is opening its first location: the first of three locations set to open this year for the new-to-market grocer.
The first store opens Tuesday in Oklahoma City, Okla.
“By opening JackBe, we’re introducing a new way for customers to shop,” said JackBe CEO Alex Ruhter in a statement.
Started by Ruhter and three co-founders, the brand’s concept is pick-up only — no going inside the store to shop. Orders are placed via the JackBe app, and when ready, the shopper can pull into one of the drive-thru bays and will be met by a JackBe employee with their order.
The service is free and does not require a minimum purchase.
In April 2022, the Edmond, Oklahoma-based company announced that it had closed a round of $3.5 million in SEED investment, and that it planned to raise an additional $3.5 million in pre-Series A funding with the goal of building two more stores in the Oklahoma City area in early 2023.
Ruhter added that the JackBe stores will soon feature prepared meals as well as local brands, like items from the “Made In Oklahoma Coalition.”
The company, which is named after the children’s nursery rhyme “Jack be nimble (Jack be quick)” says that it guarantees “no substitutions 100% of the time.” Currently there are no membership fees.
JackBe’s first location will officially open Tuesday in Edmond, Oklahoma. A second location is also under construction in Edmond.
