THE SMARTWAY TRANSPORT PARTNERSHIP, the Environmental Protection Agency's program to help companies use the newest trucking technology to cut fuel usage and emissions, has a number of food retailer participants.
The following list shows SmartWay participants and their current performance score, which indicates the relative fuel efficiency and environmental performance of their fleets.
All SmartWay partners, regardless of score, are considered to be exceeding the performance of companies not in the program. But a 1.25 score represents outstanding environmental performance, achieved by companies that are using “most of the commercially available fuel-saving strategies and are actively evaluating the latest emerging technologies,” according to SmartWay's website.
A score of 1.00 represents very good environmental achievement, attained by companies utilizing “additional technologies and fuel saving practices.” The most common score is 0.75, representing good environmental performance.
