More retailers have pledged to make a switch to cage-free eggs, including Bashas’, The Fresh Market and Aldi.

Bashas’ announced all of its private label eggs would be cage-free by 2017. The Chandler, Ariz.-based retailer said it is working with supplier Hickman’s Family Farms to begin transitioning its eggs starting in November.

“We are committed to being a good corporate citizen,” Edward “Trey” Basha, CEO of Bashas’, said in a press release. “It’s important to us to offer local, responsibly-sourced foods at affordable prices. Bringing cage-free eggs to our customers is the right thing to do, and we are happy to be partnering with another local, family-owned business to make this happen.”

The Fresh Market, which already offers only cage-free eggs for its private brand, said all eggs in its stores would be cage-free by 2020.

“Our customers have responded positively to the increasing number of cage-free, pasture-raised and organic options in our shell egg offering,” said Pamela Kohn, EVP and chief merchandising officer for The Fresh Market. “We look forward to continuing on the path toward 100% cage-free eggs and providing our customers with a growing variety of responsibly-sourced eggs.”

Like other retailers, Aldi has named 2025 as its target date for 100% cage-free eggs in stores. All Aldi stores will offer a cage-free option by the end of 2016, the retailer said.
