The EPA's GreenChill Partnership awarded Publix Super Markets with three awards Monday.

The Lakeland, Fla.-based retailer received the Store Certification for Excellence for 2013-2014 and two Recertification Excellence Awards for 2009-2014.

“Publix Super Markets has shown itself to be a leader in the GreenChill Store Certification Program. Publix has achieved GreenChill certification for 26 stores in the past year, earning the Store Certification Excellence award,” said Tom Land, GreenChill program manager, in a press release.

Certification involves criteria such as a refrigeration emission rate of less than 15% and use of refrigerants approved by the EPA's Significant New Alternatives Policy Program.

“In addition, Publix locations in Suwanee, Georgia and Winter Haven, Fla., have earned the Store Re-Certification Excellence award for achieving GreenChill certification for five consecutive years,” Land said.

The GreenChill program goals are intended to help retailers move to more sustainable practices.
