Raley’s Test Shows Filter Cuts Truck Emissions

WEST SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Raley’s here recently completed a test of a new exhaust filter system that enables older delivery trucks to achieve emissions levels that are less than those of new trucks and well below new emissions standards. In a joint partnership with the Sacramento Metropolitan Air Quality Management District and the Sacramento Emergency Clean Air and Transportation program, Raley’s retrofitted 16 older trucks with the exhaust filtration system and ran a test for more than 1,000 hours of service as the trucks traveled throughout Northern California hauling grocery products to the chain’s stores. The exhaust filter system reduced smog-forming emissions by more than 80% and virtually eliminated diesel soot emissions, according to a statement issued by Raley’s and its partners. “Raley’s has a long history of working to reduce our impact on the environment; thus we are proud to be the first retailer in California to employ this new filter system and operate the cleanest burning truck fleet in the world,” said Bill Coyne, president and chief executive officer, Raley’s, in a statement.
