URBANDALE, Iowa — Along with a full-service restaurant and oatmeal bar, Hy-Vee’s new store here features another first for the chain: a mother’s room.
Catering to breastfeeding moms and parents who simply need a break, the room is equipped with a rocking chair, magazine rack, electrical outlets and children’s toys.
The lounge has received rave reviews from parents. Among the comments posted on the Hy-Vee Facebook page: “Just want to let you know that your mother’s room is a HUGE hit with a few FB groups (including the La Leche League group). It is always fantastic when a business invests in a family friendly atmosphere! Thanks!”

The 93,000-square-foot store, Hy-Vee’s largest, opened Aug. 14. It features the Market Fresh Grille, a casual dining spot that converts to a full-service restaurant; a sushi bar with seating; a coffee shop/lounge area with stone fireplace; a fruit and juice bar; pizzas fired in a wood stone oven; a large wine and spirits shop; and an expanded housewares section.
