CEO RAKUTEN READY

After selling Placebase, a Los Angeles-based location technology company, in 2009 to Apple—where he spent the four years after the acquisition helming the team that developed location-based services across the Apple ecosystem—Jaron Waldman took his love of location technology for mobile commerce to the next frontier as the co-founder of Curbside, which has since become Rakuten Ready, San Mateo, Calif. The new name for the frictionless, mobile order-ahead solutions provider came one year after it became part of Rakuten Inc. The location-centric mobile commerce platform—which connects stores and restaurants with mobile customers and makes ordering ahead and picking up food or merchandise easy and efficient—works with retailers such as Kroger, CVS and Nordstrom and restaurant chains such as Pizza Hut, Chick-fil-A and Chipotle to scale their order-ahead programs. “It has been exciting to watch Jaron and his team grow the business and integrate into the Rakuten ecosystem, providing greater convenience to our network of merchants and members,” said Mickey Mikitani, president and CEO of Rakuten Inc. of Tokyo.
