SAFEWAY BAKERY EXECUTIVES RISE

PLEASANTON, Calif. -- Safeway here has promoted Jeff Ahlers from vice president of bakery operations to group vice president of perishables. Ahlers joined Safeway in 1986 as bakery merchandising manager in the chain's Eastern division. As group vice president of perishables, he reports to Rick Dreiling, executive vice president of marketing, for the 1,663-unit chain.
