Big Y Pulls Imus Ranch Foods Salad Dressing

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. -- Big Y Foods here pulled Imus Ranch Foods‘ salad dressing from it shelves last week in the wake of radio host Don Imus‘ derogatory remarks about the Rutgers University women‘s basketball team, according to a published report. Big Y didn‘t return SN‘s request for comment. “We have discontinued his salad dressing, based on recent issues, just because I think it‘s been offensive to our customers, and it‘s the right thing to do now,” Big Y spokeswoman Claire D‘Amour-Daley told The Republican newspaper. All proceeds from the sale of Imus Ranch Foods line, which includes chips, salsa, coffee and Greening the Clean cleaning products, go to the Imus Ranch in New Mexico. The ranch hosts children suffering from certain diseases or who have lost a sibling to such a disease. The product‘s charitable nature didn‘t factor into Big Y‘s decision to stop merchandising the item, D‘Amour-Daley told The Republican. Imus Ranch products are carried by Hannaford Bros., Price Chopper, Shaw‘s, ShopRite, Stop & Shop, Wild Oats, Pathmark and Whole Foods stores, according to the Imus Ranch website.
