TYLER, Texas — A “FreeBclub” that gives shoppers free groceries is one of many features of a new loyalty card Brookshire Grocery Co. plans to launch this week.

Shoppers are automatically entered into the club by registering their card and email at brookshires.com. In-store signs and the brookshires.com website provide a list of offers, such as a free rotisserie chicken or deli dinner.

Shoppers can then earn the item for free when a specified number of items are purchased. They can keep track of their required purchases by checking the bottom of their receipt. When they qualify for the free item, it automatically rings up for free.

Slated to launch this Wednesday, Aug. 4, Brookshire's revamped “Thank You” card also provides “Exclusive Rewards,” product discounts and other promotional offers to those who spend an average of $50 or more per week during a 13-week period. The offers are emailed several times a month.

Those who spend $100 or more per period qualify for “Top Shopper” rewards, including free personal check cashing and money orders.

Cardholders will receive an email notifying them of the weekly “eDeal,” special savings on products that are automatically loaded to their cards.

Other new features include electronic coupons that can be downloaded to the card, and opt-in e-newsletters on such subjects as babies, pets or gluten-free living.
