Potato chip sales increased 4.5% to $3.3 billion in food stores for the 52 weeks ending Oct. 31, compared with the previous 52 weeks, according to SymphonyIRI. While other salty snack categories are performing well, none experienced that kind of growth.

THERE ARE CHEESE SNACKS, tortilla chips, pork rinds and pretzels. But the traditional potato chip is the rising star in the salty snack category.

Potato chip sales increased 4.5% to $3.3 billion in food stores for the 52 weeks ending Oct. 31, compared with the previous 52 weeks, according to SymphonyIRI.

While other salty snack categories are performing well, none experienced that kind of growth.

Big Y has always been a strong potato chip retailer due to its aggressive promotional calender, according to category manager Mark Rice.

“Our share of category for potato chips has always been much higher than our competitors, and continues to remain strong,” said Rice.
