SALISBURY, N.C. — Food Lion wants owners of Spot, Fido and other pets to know it's launched a website just for them.

Dog and cat lovers can get $9 in pet coupons, view weekly unadvertised specials for loyalty card holders and read health and nutrition information provided by Pedigree, Purina, Meow Mix and other national-brand sponsors at the new Pet Partners site at www.foodlion.com/petpartners.

“This is a way to connect with pet owners on an emotional level,” Food Lion spokeswoman Karen Peterson told SN. The site launched last month.

Site visitors can get customized feeding, training and grooming tips for either cats or dogs. Those who choose dog information can get five Internet coupons, including $1 off any Pedigree 5-pound bag, and 50 cents off any Sergeant's dog treats. Cat owners can get $1 off any bag of Meow Mix, 3.15 pounds or larger, or $1 off Arm & Hammer cat litter.

An entire section of the site is devoted to Food Lion-brand pet products. Unadvertised loyalty card specials include a 22-pound bag of Food Lion adult dog food for $6.99.

“The Food Lion brand offers only the finest quality items at a fraction of the cost of national brands,” the site reads. “As a result, you can buy with confidence and make sensible selections for you and your pet.”
