GMA Supports Obama's 2010 FDA Budget Recommendation

WASHINGTON — The Grocery Manufacturers Association here applauds President Obama’s recommendation to increase the U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s budget next year by 19%. Half of the increase would go to food safety efforts, according to published reports.
“President Obama’s recommendation is the right thing to do and clearly demonstrates the Administration’s commitment to rebuilding the FDA and strengthening and modernizing our nation’s food safety system,” said Pam Bailey, president and chief executive officer of GMA, in a statement. “We look forward to learning more about the Administration’s proposal as well as to working with it to strengthening the safety and security of our food supply.”
The increase would include $295 million in allocated funds, and $215 million in user fees, including $94 million in fees from food companies, according to reports.
