MATTHEWS, N.C. — Harris Teeter here is launching its own brand of craft beer, dubbed Barrel Trolley Beer, according to the chain's website. The line is being launched this month with a Belgian white ale and a pale ale, to be followed in the fall with an amber ale.

The name Barrel Trolley is a reference to an underground rain system that delivered beer to speakeasies during Prohibition.

"Discovered and delivered to you exclusively by Harris Teeter, Barrel Trolley Beer harkens back to the days of secret handshakes and a flourishing underground world," the website states.

The retail price will be $7.99 for a six-pack, according to a report in the Charlotte Observer. Other retailers that have recently rolled out private-label brews include Kroger Co., Supervalu, 7-Eleven and Walgreen.
