WEST CALDWELL, N.J. -- Kings Super Markets here is sponsoring its first annual chicken recipe contest, which features its private-label poultry.

The contest was announced in a three-quarter page ad in a local weekly newspaper. The ad also included a $1 off coupon for a 3-pound or larger package of Kings Country Farm Fresh skinless/boneless chicken parts, which must be used in the recipes.

The promotion, called, "Fresh 'N Healthy Recipe Contest," is cosponsored by a local newspaper company, North Jersey Newspapers, Butler, N.J.

Recipes must be mailed to the newspaper office along with an entry blank provided in the ad. A register receipt with the price paid for Kings chicken parts circled must also be included.

The first place winner will receive a one-minute shopping spree at Kings' Short Hills, N.J., store. Two second place winners will each receive a four-piece Wusthof-Trident cutlery set with cutting block. Five semi-finalists will be selected, with a cookoff held on Oct. 8 at the Short Hills' store cooking studio.

Kings operates 19 stores in northern New Jersey. A company official did not return phone calls seeking comment on the promotion.
