GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — As part of an effort to improve food safety and reduce an estimated 10% shrink, Meijer will convert its $30 million per year bulk-candy business to packaged, according to a piece in The Grand Rapids Press.
The 195-store chain is testing the strategy in its Walker, Mich. unit. It will phase bulk foods out of all supercenters once it opens a new food manufacturing plant in April.
The plant will handle its packaging operation, according to the report.
