STREETSVILLE, Ontario — Menu Foods, which had previously recalled wet cat and dog food produced with adulterated wheat gluten supplied by ChemNutra Inc., expanded the recall to include products which do not include ChemNutra wheat gluten but were manufactured at any of Menu Foods’ plants while the wheat gluten was used at its plants. “Menu Foods has received a report from a customer and has received study results, both of which indicate cross-contamination,” said the manufacturer in a statement. Menu estimates that the additional recall represents less than 5% of products already withdrawn or recalled. An updated recall list can be found at www.menufoods.com. The recall dates of those products previously recalled have also been modified to include all dates during the period that ChemNutra wheat gluten was used in the applicable Menu plant. Among the new varieties of pet food added to the list are two European products. Menu has revised its estimate of the out-of-pocket costs for the total recall from $40 million to $45 million.
