Menu Foods Asks Retailers Again to Pull Recalled Product

STREETSVILLE, Ont. -- Menu Foods here issued a press release Saturday asking retailers to immediately remove all impacted varieties of wet pet food posted at www.menufoods.com, regardless of date code, from their shelves. The statement was issued as a result of reports from the Food and Drug Administration and various media outlets that some recalled products remained on store shelves, according to the wet pet food manufacturer. “Menu Foods remains concerned that consumers are able to purchase recalled items,” according to its statement. “There is no known risk from items not listed on the recall list but an abundance of caution is called for in this situation. FDA has been apprised of this action.” Menu Foods reported that there is no evidence of any problems in any products manufactured at either its Streetsville facility or its North Sioux City, S.D., facility. “Furthermore, there is no evidence of problems in any of the products not on the recall list produced at Emporia, Kansas, or Pennsauken, New Jersey.” On Friday, New York State Agriculture Commissioner Patrick Hooker announced that aminopterin, which is used in some countries as rat poison, was identified in samples of Menu Foods cat food. Following the discovery, retailers including Wal-Mart and Publix made the decision to pull all Menu Foods-manufactured products from their shelves.
