New Seasons Market, Portland, Ore., announced it would begin selling a salad dressing and marinade made with a local seaweed called dulse, developed in partnership with Oregon State University and Dulse Foods.

Sold under New Seasons’ “Partner Label” private brand, the Tamari with Dulse Seaweed Dressing & Marinade will hit stores in Portland and Vancouver, Wash., on Jan. 13. The retailer also plans to sample the dressing at those locations.

“Dulse is sustainable and nutritious, and its cultivation has the potential to revitalize coastal food economies. This is the first of what we hope will be many delicious, innovative products incorporating Oregon-grown dulse,” Chris Tjersland, New Seasons Market Partner Brand development manager, said in a press release. “Our New Seasons Partner Label program, which brings our customers the best possible food and connects them with local producers, is specifically designed for this kind of collaborative, regional item.”

The OSU Food Innovation Center is currently working on other products made with dulse, including chips, ice cream, trail mix and beer.
