NEW YORK — Small business owners and individuals joined to form a 50-member alliance here last week called New Yorkers Against Unfair Taxes.

The coalition’s primary objective is to defeat a budget proposal that if passed would place a 18% tax increase on non-diet sodas and fruit drinks containing less than 70% natural fruit juice.

The group launched a website, www.nobeveragetax.com. Visitors can voice their opposition for the measure by signing a petition. Gristedes, the Food Industry Alliance of New York State and the Coca-Cola Co. are among the coalition's members.
